The Home Stretch Starts . . .

The home stretch starts . . .

Hey fam and friends! It's been a while! I've had some really interesting experiences this past week with our investigators and seeing the Lord's hand in His work. We received a new mission president!!! President Stapley and his wife are amazing and I'm looking forward to having a great time working with them. I found out they know my aunt and uncle because they live in California. I'm gonna have to catch up on some other stuff too since the last time I wrote. I got a new backpack, but I still haven't gotten any scriptures as I have no way of getting new ones, nor do I know how to get any. But I should be getting some new ones from the offices soon. On the 4th of July, we went to Guanajuato capital again! It was like I was on vacation and we were all tourists haha. I only have 6 months left!!! I hit 18 months on August 2. I would say it went by fast, but honestly it felt exactly like a year and a half. To the dot. A few pdays ago we went to the Eincon de Parangueo, which is a big crater here made from water. Also last Tuesday, I got to do divisions with Elder Guerrero and we did a small service project for a member who makes ice cream (by the way it's probably some of the best ice cream I've had in my life, no joke)
So the work is good here, slow, but good. A family of 6 had stopped talking to us and stopped responding to our calls/messages so we went over to ask what was the matter. Turns out, someone showed them a video about our church and now they have a completely wrong idea of who we are and what we believe in and it was terrible. Only the mom was there and we had a difficult conversation. She asked us why we call ourselves saints if only God is a saint, and we explained that the Bible calls the members 'saints' more than 40 times. We answered all her questions until she couldn't find any more excuses and she said that she loves her other church more than ours and she'll never leave it. We asked if Christ himself came right now and established a church, if she would join it and she said no. So, that was that. Since then, we've gone back to finding people. Good ol' missionary work. We've visited pretty much all the members that live here. Just last Sunday, my comp and I went to a town called Jaral de Progreso and found 3 families who are all interested in listening to us. We'll be visiting all of them on Wednesday and we're excited. Every area is different and I've learned that in this one, it takes patience and you just have to become friends with the people first. Simply have love for them and be interested in whatever it is that they do. I've found that becoming interested in their lives and spending time to just talk or serve other people in their business or house-work is one of the best ways to gain their trust, and it leads to happy conversations and open-ears. Transfers are next Monday and I don't know whether I'll stay or go. My comp has 2 weeks more than me, which isn't a lot so it's hard to predict. I want everyone to know, though, that whenever you are nice to someone or serve them, you are helping to gather Israel. I love all of you guys and thank you for supporting me and for your prayers. You too are all in my prayers as well.
Now go serve someone!

Love, Elder Chamberlain
