Celaya Zone Conference

Ola Everyone -
Last Monday for P-Day was so awesome! We went to Dolores Hidalgo. We played some street soccer. We found a random neighborhood court and there were all these freakin' kids who were like 10 years old. They were just kickin' my bum at soccer! They were crazy good! I kept fouling people but it was street soccer so it doesn't matter ha ha! Oh, I also caught this bird! I found a pigeon on the road and we brought it home to the apartment and we fed it. it was kinda fun--but we left it at the other missionary's home ha ha! And yes, Mom . . . I washed my hands :)
This week we kept teaching this lady named Veronica and Hermana Monces. They keep feeding us which is SUPER nice! Friday was our Zone Conference! I got to see my mission president and a bunch of other missionaries in the Celaya Zone which was AMAZING! I love my president so much! He is seriously the coolest guy! He gives us hugs but he showed me how to do it the Mexican way . . . on the left side- so it's "heart to heart." I liked that. I asked him in my interview why we aren't allowed to talk to people in the street or knock on random doors. He said, "Covid makes things complicated." We can leave our house but we cannot talk to strangers, except if they are invited into a member's home. We are under a heavy mask mandate here still. Everyone wears a mask everywhere. It's kinda weird because the U.S. is becoming more open but we are still pretty locked down.
I also FINALLY got my package from my family and they sent me a small piano keyboard!! I have already written a few songs on it and I just love making music. I hope I can use this for online teaching or to bring to member's homes and share music with them.
We went to teach a hermana who cuts hair and we saw the Bishop there. He asked us to give talks. So I gave a talk on Sunday in both wards about missionary work and how we can be a light to those around us. Just serving other people no matter what it is--- like giving someone your seat on the bus or helping someone with their bags---just super tiny things that other people see that make an impact, because that's what Jesus did with His miracles. Christ was the best example! I felt the power of the Spirit when I was talking and like five people came up to me afterwards and told me how much they loved my talk. That really meant a lot to me because I asked them if they could understand me and they said, "Oh yes, we understood every word, Elder!" That was super nice and I felt really good!
Yesterday we went to see the missionaries in Hidalgo again and we all combined our money to buy food to make our own tacos. The native misioneros taught me how to make them. They were like taquitos and they tasted SOOO GOOD! Oh, this is funny . . . I ran out of my deodorant and I went to the store and bought a brand that I used back in Utah and no kidding . . . I got home and sat on my bed forever just smelling that deodorant and thinking of HOME. . . ha ha!
Well, that was my week. I challenge everyone to serve, no matter what it is. Just be an example and a light to those around you.
Until next week,
Elder Spencer Chamberlain
