My first baptism
(I apologize---this letter was written back on October 1st but never sent. . .)
Hola Everyone -
Sorry it's been FOREVER since I've written. I feel like I have been MIA on my letter writing but there hasn't been much to say these past few weeks. Life as a missionary has been really tough basically being stuck in our apartment all day. We had transfers and everyone stayed except Elder Rowberry left and we got Elder Reyes. It's been really tough with money these past few weeks, trying to conserve money to make it last until we get our quincena (stipend) again. I always run out of food because what little money the mission office gives us we have to use for not only food but our Uber rides, haircuts and everything else. It's really hard. But my Spanish is getting a little better and I'm understanding everyone better. There still is a whole other level of fluency, but I'm taking steps towards it.
We had a baptism last Saturday and it was awesome! It was on September 25th. All Mexicans we have met have like 4 names which is pretty cool. Angel Gabriel Juarez Pinera was his name. It has been quite a while since I have baptized someone so it felt really good. They were a less active family and now I hope they will make a commitment to come to church more often now that their son got baptized.
It's been raining a BUNCH and so we have a ton of mosquitoes in the house. With no screens on the windows it's a pain having them swarm around you while you sleep. It was raining so much that coming home from the store I felt like I had stepped into a shower. The streets were flooding and our clothes literally were drenched. I will send pics. Not a very eventful few weeks except for the baptism and the floods. . . but I hope everyone is happy :) My testimony is getting stronger everyday and I am grateful for that.
Love, Elder Chamberlain
